„Descent" is Mike's English album of going down — to come up. 10 tracks of inner descent, where the way to true height is not first up but through. Theologically grounded in Philippians 2,6-11: Yeshuas kenōsis — He went down first, before God exalted Him to the highest place.
The title carries weight. „Descent" in English suggests fall, drop, decline. In our cultural imagination, descent is bad — going up is success. Mike inverts this. In the kingdom of God, the way to glory is the way of descent. The first will be last. The greatest is the servant. The path to the throne goes through Gethsemane.
Track 1 „Below" opens the album with the location. Below — where Yeshua went, all the way to death and even to „the lower parts of the earth" (Eph 4,9). If you want to be where He is, you may need to go where He went first. That's not a punishment. That's an invitation.
„Frequencies" turns to the inner world. There are frequencies of perception, of prayer, of presence that only open when the soul is quiet enough to listen. 1. Kings 19,11-13: Elijah didn't find God in the storm, earthquake, or fire — he found Him in the „still small voice". Low frequency. Quiet.
„Hollow Light" is the moment of feeling empty even in what should be bright. Many believers know this — the season when worship feels mechanical, prayer hollow, the Bible silent. Mike doesn't romanticize this. He names it. Hollow light is real. And it's not the end. It's part of the descent.
„Ashes" connects to the deep biblical tradition of ash. Job 42,6: „Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." Ash is what's left when the fire has burned everything else away. In Mike's theology, ashes are not defeat — they are the precondition for the new fire. Isaiah 61,3: God gives „a crown of beauty instead of ashes".
„Veil", „Breath", „Unbroken" form the album's turning point. Veil — the thing that hides truth (and was torn at Yeshuas death, Mt 27,51). Breath — the divine action that brings life from dust (Gen 2,7: God breathed into Adam). Unbroken — the quality of what survives the descent because it was already eternal.
„Heart of Fire" brings the inner re-ignition. After the descent, after the veil falls, after the breath returns — what wakes up is a heart of fire. This is Jeremiah 20,9: „But if I say, 'I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,' his word is in my heart like a fire shut up in my bones."
„Belong" is the realization. The descent was not exile — it was homecoming. You belong to Him in the depths even more than in the heights, because in the depths nothing else competes for your attention. Down there, He is all you have. And that is enough.
The closing track „Rise" completes the bow. After descent comes resurrection. Philippians 2,9: „Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place." The lifting up is real. But it follows the going down. Anyone trying to skip the descent to get straight to the rising — has missed the path entirely. Mike's album walks the full path. Whoever walks it with him, rises differently than those who never went down.
